Think of the clotting process: Prothrombin to thrombin, fibrinogen to fibrin. The clotting factors along the passageway are enzymes. The entire process is a cascade.
The complement system is another enzyme cataract. Complement is a part of the immune system. It can be activate by contact with virus, bacteria, fungi, and tumor cell. Once activated, a series of enzyme reaction (the enzyme cascade) play a critical role in protecting the body from infection and cancer.
