The want for escharotomies is relatively common within the treatment of burn injuries. The need arises because the burns end in the skin to swell so tight that it may interfere with the circulation to a feeler causing demarcation and loss of the member
The technique: Under sterile conditions they make an incision through the skin until the tissue gape such as to release the pressure particularly on the vascular supply.
